Blue Book article graphic: a data checklist with one flagged row under a magnifying glass, headline How AI Puts Your Own Data to Work Catching Fraud, byline Michael Cole, Everflow

Catching affiliate fraud usually means one of two things: paying for another tool, or losing hours to manual reporting. AI gives partner teams a third option. Ask a question, and let it check the data you already have.

The hardest part of fighting affiliate fraud has rarely been a lack of data. In a mature partner program, there are plenty of basic indicators on problematic partners to flag fraudulent activity. With advanced platforms, you can go further with signals like how fast a click converts, whether it came through a proxy, and whether the lead ever took action afterward.

Finding the time to analyze and act on the data is the real challenge. The reports that expose bad traffic often sit several clicks deep, and a partner manager with an already full plate has to pull each one, compare it against the account, and repeat. Checks get skipped, and fraud gets caught late or not at all.

That’s where AI makes affiliate life easier without adding a new tool or a time-consuming workflow. An AI agent can work through large amounts of tracking data, run the checks a fraud analyst would run, and hand you back what it found in plain language. The accuracy holds because every check is a rule read off your own records. The simplicity comes from asking a question instead of having to manually build a report.

Deterministic, Not Probabilistic

A lot of fraud tooling is built on scoring: a model looks at traffic and tells you it is probably a bot. That answer is hard to act on. You can’t see why it flagged a click, you can’t easily dispute it with a partner, and you can’t tell whether the cutoff is catching real fraud or real customers.

Deterministic detection works differently. It applies clear rules to granular data you already hold, such as click and conversion timestamps, IP addresses, user agents, referrers, device and geo data, and sub-IDs. Each rule is a yes-or-no test, and the same traffic always gets the same result. Each result is a fact about your traffic that you can check yourself. Every flag is explainable, reproducible, tunable, and backed by evidence you can show a partner.

For the fraud you can define precisely, rules give you answers you can verify and defend:

Leads that go nowhere: A partner sends a hundred sign-ups, and not one of those people ever does anything again. Your downstream events show it directly.

Conversions that arrive too fast: Legitimate visitors generally take tens of seconds to convert. A partner whose conversions land a few seconds after the click deserves a closer look.

Traffic from unlikely places: A thousand clicks off one datacenter, or a partner whose proxy share sits far above your account’s average.

Codes doing too much work: A handful of coupon codes carrying a large share of conversions, and the partner behind them.

What your team already rejected: The conversions someone rejected by hand, and the reason they recorded. That’s the only human-labeled record of fraud in your account.

None of these requires a guess about intent. Each one is a measurement and each one has an innocent explanation worth ruling out. A corporate VPN routes through a proxy. A dominant coupon code may simply be the promotion that worked. A good fraud check reports the finding and the innocent explanation side by side, then lets your team decide.

The Features Are Already There

We didn’t build a separate fraud product for this. Click-to-conversion timing, proxy detection, ISP and device data, downstream events, coupon tracking and rejection reasons are all existing parts of the Everflow platform.

What was missing was enough time to use those features well. An affiliate manager needs to know each report exists, pull it, set a volume floor so a partner with four clicks doesn’t look like a crisis, compare it against the account baseline, and repeat for every signal. In practice, some signals get checked every week and others never get checked at all.

AI layers on top of those features and makes sure no deterministic signal slips under the radar. The pulling and comparing moves to the agent, and your team’s time goes to the part that needs a person: deciding what to do about a partner.

Two Versions of the Same Check

This powerful workflow is accessible as a free prompt recipe in the Everflow AI Playbook, with multiple variations built around the same core logic.

The full version is written for LLMs and AI agents connected to your account through our API or MCP server. It runs every signal above, adds a timing pass that checks conversions one by one, and builds the findings into a shared spreadsheet that refreshes on a schedule. The whole prompt is open, so you can edit it to describe exactly the things you’re looking for.

The in-platform version runs in Ask Everflow AI, the chat built into the Everflow platform. It’s the first prompt we wrote specifically for that chat, and it’s deliberately short. You paste it in, and the chat asks which of three problems you want to check: bot traffic, lead quality, or coupon abuse. Then it waits for your answer. It returns one table of up to ten partners, with your account total as the last row, and gives one innocent explanation next to every flagged partner. It closes by naming what it did not check.

That last line matters. A fraud check that reports only what it looked at reads as an all-clear, and “no fraud found” can simply mean no detector was running. So the prompt tells the chat to say what the data shows and never to call your traffic clean.

Personalized for Your Program

The prompt is universal. Every Everflow customer gets the same starting point. However, what counts as fraud depends on your industry. A lead generation program cares most about leads that never do anything again. An ecommerce brand working with coupon partners watches code concentration. A subscription business may decide that a conversion without a second payment is the signal that matters.

So personalize it. Add the signals to watch out for that your team already knows by heart, the volume floors that fit your program, and the partners you already trust. Before trusting any conversion rate, check what the conversion event actually is: a high rate on a page view means something very different from a high rate on a purchase. And if every partner looks almost identical, treat that as a finding too: real traffic is uneven.

This is the case for building your own solution to your own pain points. An outside tool is built to serve many programs at once, so it can’t know exactly what your team is filtering for, and the data it would need is already captured in your tracking platform. You can write the rules, run them on your own data, and change them the day your program scales.

Where to Start

1. Pick One Question

Choose the fraud type you care about most and run that check alone. A full sweep buries the one finding that mattered. If you’re unsure, start with lead quality: it’s a single report and the most likely to return something your team can act on.

2. Read Every Finding Against Your Baseline

A partner at 40% proxy traffic means little until you know your account runs at 8%. Ask for the account total on every table and apply a minimum volume floor.

3. Make It a Habit

Run the in-platform version weekly, or use the full version to build a sheet that refreshes on its own and goes straight to the partner manager who has to act on it.

The Power Is Now Yours

For years, ease of use in partner marketing software meant hiding the powerful parts. With AI working on top of open data, the powerful parts are just one question away.

Fraud detection is a good place to see that, because the best version of it is boring in the best way. It doesn’t predict and it doesn’t ask for trust. It reports what happened, lays out the evidence, and leaves the call to the team who knows your partners best. AI doesn’t change that. It makes sure the work gets done. Partner teams don’t need smarter-sounding fraud tools. They need ones they can trust, and the verified data to do that is already in their account.

That’s the direction we’re building in at Everflow: easier access to the data our customers already own, more room to customize how they use it, and a platform others can build on top of. Next, we’re bringing the same access to the other side of the partnership with an affiliate MCP server, so partners can put their own AI to work on their Everflow data. We’re also working on write access, so AI agents can act on what they find as well as report it. We’re releasing it in stages on purpose, so teams know how it works and can use it with confidence before an agent changes anything in their account.
