Twitter has taken over the world. Last week we mentioned Karl Rove taking up Tweeting. This week has seen The Daily Show’s Samantha Bee bring her own unique perspective to Twitter, “My Stalker just Grunted on my Twitter,”
while at the other end of the spectrum we saw Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt describe the service as “poor man’s email.”

In reality, there has been much speculation that Google is concerned that Twitter’s own excellent search engine may start to cut into Google’s business because of its ability to catalog real-time data from users. And Twitter is clearly aware of that potential. It seems to be why Twitter surprised many by walking away from a sale to Facebook last year.

Todd Chaffee, one of Twitter’s new backers said in a recent interview: “You put a question out to the global mind, and it comes back. Millions of people are contributing to the knowledge base. The engine is alive. You get feedback in real time from people, not just documents.”

Twitter search. It’s going to be big.
