Cost per install (CPI) is the commission model built for the app economy: the advertiser pays when a user downloads and installs a mobile app. The install is both the conversion event and the price point, making it the standard for mobile user acquisition campaigns. Read our full guide to CPI ›
This is a PartnerIndex directory: it lists the networks active in CPI, with featured partners shown first and the rest in rotating order. It is not a ranking.

Cost per install is the commission model built for the app economy. The advertiser pays when a user downloads and installs a mobile application. That single event, the install, is both the conversion and the starting point for everything that follows: onboarding, engagement, in-app purchases, subscriptions. CPI works because it gives advertisers a predictable acquisition cost and gives publishers a clear, measurable action to drive.
The model is straightforward. The execution is not. Install fraud, post-install quality, and attribution complexity make CPI one of the more technically demanding models to run profitably on either side of the transaction.
Traffic quality requirements on CPI are stricter than most publishers expect. Advertisers are not just counting installs. They are measuring post-install events: did the user open the app, complete registration, make a purchase, or reach a retention milestone? Networks that pay on install alone are becoming rare. Most now run on CPI+ or CPI with post-install quality requirements baked into the payout terms. Understand exactly what post-install behavior the advertiser is measuring before you commit traffic.
Fraud detection will affect your earnings directly. CPI is one of the most fraud-targeted models in performance marketing. Click injection, device farms, SDK spoofing, and install attribution manipulation are well-documented problems. If the network runs aggressive fraud filtering, legitimate installs from unusual traffic patterns may get flagged. Ask how the network handles false positives and what your dispute process looks like.
Geographic payout differentials in CPI are wider than in most models. A U.S. iOS install for a finance app might pay $5 to $15. The same app in Southeast Asia might pay $0.30. Make sure the network’s offer catalog has real depth in the geos you can actually deliver, not just headline rates from markets where you have no traffic.
Platform split matters. iOS and Android campaigns run at different payout rates, have different attribution mechanics (SKAdNetwork on iOS, Google Play Install Referrer on Android), and face different fraud profiles. A network strong in Android gaming installs is not necessarily strong in iOS fintech installs. Evaluate platform-specific strength, not aggregate install volume.
Retention-based clawbacks are increasingly common. Some CPI agreements include a clause where the payout is reversed if the user uninstalls within a defined window, typically 24 to 72 hours. If your traffic sources include incentivized installs or reward-based placements, retention rates will be lower and clawback exposure higher. Factor that into your effective payout calculation.
Define success beyond the install. CPI gives you a user at a known cost. Whether that user becomes valuable depends on what happens after the install. The best CPI networks let you optimize toward post-install events: registrations, first purchases, subscription activations. If the network can only report on installs and cannot pass post-install data back to its publisher base for optimization, you are buying volume without steering quality.
Attribution infrastructure is non-negotiable. You need integration with a mobile measurement partner (MMP) like AppsFlyer, Adjust, or Branch. The network should support server-to-server postback integration with your MMP and provide device-level attribution data. Without this, you cannot deduplicate installs across networks, identify fraud, or measure true incrementality.
Fraud is a cost center you need to budget for. Industry estimates put mobile install fraud between 15% and 30% of total CPI spend depending on the geo and vertical. Your network should run its own fraud detection, but you should also run independent verification through your MMP. Ask the network what percentage of installs it rejects for fraud and what detection methods it uses. Networks that claim negligible fraud rates are either not looking or not telling you what they find.
Creative and placement controls protect your brand. Where your app install ad appears matters. Interstitial placements, rewarded video, and offerwall traffic all have different user quality profiles. You need the ability to approve or restrict traffic sources at the placement level, not just the channel level. If the network treats all mobile traffic as interchangeable, your user quality will reflect that.
Scaling CPI campaigns across geos requires a network with real operational depth in your target markets. Localized creatives, region-specific compliance (GDPR for EU installs, for example), and local payment infrastructure for publishers all affect whether a network can deliver quality at scale outside its home market.
