Tour de Online Marketing by Tobias Siegel, February 17, 2009 I haven’t been on vacation or cycling in the French Alps as part of the annual Tour de France. Actually, I’ve been staying local and mobile, which was in sync with the SMX Local and Mobile conference in San Francisco last week. SMX Local was a more intimate and targeted SMX event, which in many ways are preferable to the mega-conference and trade show exhibitions for both networking and education. The panel sessions expanded on the latest developments in local search marketing and geotargeting for advertisers on mobile devices. I’m glad I was able to stop by and pick up some new tips for advertisers on mobile devices. Speaking of local, I was commuting to work on the MUNI train last week and couldn’t help myself from eavesdropping on a conversation about paid search campaigns and partnerships with super affiliates. Overheard: “The folks (affiliates) really know their stuff!” There wasn’t much time to jump in and introduce myself and I’m not sure what the etiquette is for eavesdroppers. But being a well-prepared sales person, I had a couple copies of my product (Revenue magazine) handy and offered them to my bus riding performance marketing colleagues. They appreciated the gesture and my viral/word of mouth marketing was done for the day. As July comes to an end I’m preparing for a full calendar of events in August including Ad:Tech Chicago, Affiliate Summit East in Boston and Search Engine Strategies in San Jose. If you can make all three of these events you’ll be racking up some decent mileage. Meanwhile, if you need a copy of our up-to-date Media Kit or have any questions about upcoming 2008 advertising opportunities in the magazine, website or weekly e-mail newsletter, please contact us.
