As part of their marketing program to help spread the word about Visudyne, Novartis approached Oneupweb to assist in creating a site that was balanced and ready for the search engines. Although non-traditional to their typical marketing campaigns, Novartis understood how important search engine optimization can be when looking at the growing statistics of Internet health searches.

History

Visudyne therapy, a Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), offers new hope for treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Visudyne, is a new, selective treatment for choroidal neovascularization (CNV) associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of legal blindness in people over the age of 50 in the Western world. The technique has the potential to prevent the progression of CNV and thereby preserve patients' vision. Early studies demonstrated that Visudyne therapy stemmed the growth of CNV and prevented leakage from abnormal blood vessels. Most importantly, these studies suggested that patient sight stabilizes and does not deteriorate during the three-month follow-up period. The therapy was recently approved in a number of countries including regulatory approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States.

Objective

As part of their marketing program to help spread the word about Visudyne, Novartis approached Oneupweb to assist in creating a site that was balanced and ready for the search engines. Although non-traditional to their typical marketing campaigns, Novartis understood how important search engine optimization can be when looking at the growing statistics of Internet health searches. In support of other marketing efforts for the launch, Novartis looked to Oneupweb to deliver high caliber visitors that would convert to future patients.

Solution

Oneupweb focused on the complete Visudyne marketing agenda to understand all angles of the campaign, including target audience demographics. We consulted with Novartis just after the launch of the site and prepared for optimization and keyword design. Oneupweb formulated a plan that would include re-tuned META Tags, key terms and title. The plan also included the design of custom developed Preferred Content Files.

Results

As a new product site, Oneupweb worked quickly to make the appropriate changes, deliver the files and make initial submissions to the search engines. The site is currently experiencing incredible "single digit" positioning in nearly all of the major engines.
